Hello all my favorite people!

Wanted to let you know about a few things:

1) I am HUUUUUGE. But I have a reason...I am now 6 months pregnant and
continuously amazed by the kicking in my belly, which in the last week has become
visible, not just palpable.

2) You won't be able to see the kicking, I don't think, while I am behind my guitar
at this upcoming show (...if I can still hold my guitar, that is : ) This is a
fantastic line-up of talent that we're calling: Music, Poetry and Pizazz:
Spiderwise Press Release Concert and Attack of the Muses!

Music from 3 female-fronted bands/ singer-songwriters PLUS poetry interludes as well!

Here's the deets:

Wednesday, January 25th
7pm til about 11:30pm
price: cheap!
THE MISSISSIPPI PIZZA PUB
3552 N Mississippi Ave.
Portland, OR

Featuring:

Kate Mann
http://www.katemann.com
superb Roots Pop Music

Crystin Byrd Band
http://www.crystinbyrd.com
Melodic 4-piece Alt-Pop

Mia Nutick
http://www.users.qwest.net/~nrm1002/SP1/books/SP0001.html
Spiderwise Press Release Event
for "Wicked Fairy Apologist"
Poetry!

S.J. Attack of the Muses!

3) Shows will be fewer and further between for me, most likely, as my due date
approacheth and my energy turns to preparing for this little person to enter our
lives. So come see us now! The 4-piece has been brewing up new songs and delving
more deeply into discovering each other's talents, tastes, and expression. It has
been awesome for me to get to know Jess, Brian, and Scott better all the time. What
a talented and self-deprecating bunch : )

4) There are a handful of new pics on the website
http://www.crystinbyrd.com/photos.html and you can now download "I Love...", the
song from Rolla Selbak's movie, "Making Maya," for free at
http://www.myspace.com/crystinbyrd .

Hope you are all well and that your basements aren't flooding from 22 days of rain!
xoxo,
Crystin

The day before we were to leave for our show at the coast, I pulled my guitar out of the case for rehearsal, only to find that in transit, the bridge of my Dean Exotica guitar had pulled half-off! Splintering wood is not what one wants to see on the day before an important gig! The guys at "Twelfth Fret" were there for me - sensitive to the fact that I had to get her up and running and leave for the gigs at the coast - they reassured me that this was not an unusual occurence (especially on Dean Exoticas, sadly. To quote Pierce: "Sure are pretty guitars," leaving the rest unspoken, I think : ) Anyways, they had her fixed by the next day and we went on our merry way. Thanks, guys.

Hello Everyone,
The band spent an exciting stormy weather weekend (wind! hail! trees coming down! power outages! and great music!) performing and listening to some pretty stellar music at the "Stormy Weather Arts Festival" this last weekend in galleries and cafes throughout Cannon Beach, Oregon. One of my favorite places of all time, (besides Le Mont St. Michel in France, of course), Cannon Beach is also where the debut CD photo shoot took place, oh so long ago; so it was pretty cool to revisit and remember the good, the weird, and the beautiful of that time.

In one week, the full Byrd Band, with our line-up of cello, flute, sophisticato drummery, and lil ol me, will be onstage at The Mississippi Pub, opening the night for some pop/folksy/bluesy out-of-towners:

Thursday, November 17th, 2005 -- 9pm
THE MISSISSIPPI PIZZA PUB
Pop, Folk, & Blues Night
3552 N Mississippi Ave.
Portland OR 97211

order of appearance:
Crystin Byrd Band - http://www.crystinbyrd.com
Anna Laube - http://www.annalaube.com
and
Leopold and His Fiction - http://www.leopoldandhisfiction.com

About $3 but no one turned away for lack of funds, or just to check us out!
Come say hi, have some pizza, spinach salad, listen, chat....We'd love to see you!
xoxo,
Crystin

I just returned from a brief but incredibly excellent few days in NY City, where I and 9 other honored participants attended October Project's weekend workshop in Soho. It was a meaningful and expansive experience for me, and I'm so glad timing and lucky things allowed me to go. There were so many amazing moments, that I would have a difficult time synthesizing the whole thing...but perhaps the private concert in Marina Belica's loft, without microphones, without distance, was the most incredible. Marina's voice is so pure, so strong; Julie, also the lyricist, harmonized with her, and they would exchange loving looks throughout certain songs, communicating volumes, as though helping each other through the feelings that must come up while singing such songs with such grace. This was especially important for me to see, as if by their actions, I am given permission. Emil Adler backed them on electric piano, telling us definitively, "can't get in the way of the voices," when someone questioned his respectfully low volume. Wow, now there's a concept! Someone confident in their talent, and confident in their role. In heart-soaring moments, Emil would also join in vocal 3-part harmony with Marina and Julie...is it possible to lift and break the heart in the same moment? Yep.

Playing track 9, "Sing To Me," from my album, for one of my all-time favorite bands, was...well...as if my life had made a full circuit. I could kind of only smile and say, "ohhhh," when Julie hugged me afterwards and told me, "I am such a fan." I try not to be a star-struck girl, but...that was a moment I will never forget.

I special shout out to Michael Jonas a fellow attendee, and photographer, who took a few lovely pictures of me on the streets of the city. I will try to post those soon. And also to the others there - Dave and Irene, Beth and Ron, Charlie, Debbie, Judy. And to Emil Adler, Julie Flanders, and Marina Belica for sharing their gifts and their home with us. A fabulous group of people, and an amazing once-in-a-lifetime event.

***
